The Christmas season is often marked by the sound of hands tearing into presents, the familiar taste of roast dinner, and the warm embrace of loved ones. From the most extravagant celebration, to the most modest, at Christmas time most of us are blessed to experience these things.
According to Shelter (a homelessness support charity), this year has seen an increase in homelessness. Their research shows that in Stockport, 571 people will face Christmas on the streets.
Shelter believes that “change starts with communities” and we couldn’t agree more, as we’ve spent the last 20 years Bringing Hope Through Jesus Christ to communities in Stockport and Greater Manchester.
Renewal is regularly approached by agencies supporting individuals who would flourish on the Renewal Living programme – a 24/7, 2-year programme that provides housing, employment skills, community and support – but we have to turn them away for lack of space.
We are not content with this and have purchased a 4-bedroom property that we are renovating and adding more bedrooms to. To complete this renovation, we need to raise £150,000 and are asking for your help.
Could you spare as little as £1 to make this Christmas someone’s last one on the streets?
